RSS allows readers to stay up-to-date with website news and blog posts easily. 

Rather than visiting a website to see if something has changed, an RSS feed distributes changes automatically — readers can subscribe to the feed through desktop software (an "RSS reader" or "feed reader") or web pages that aggregate news feeds across the Internet (like iGoogle, or Yahoo).  Read more about RSS feeds at the wikipedia.
