Clark Nelson is Neoteric Design’s summer 2014 design intern, exploring topics in product design, graphic design, and front end development.
Last week was my first week as the design intern to the Neoteric Design team. There are a lot of things that set Neoteric apart from other teams I’ve worked with.
They practice an agile methodology, which I knew a little bit about going into the internship, but seeing it in practice was the best learning experience. Each morning the team has a daily scrum, where they go over things they worked on the day before. This helps to ensure that no project gets left behind, and if anyone needs any help, they get it. The whole purpose of an agile workflow is that no decisions are permanent; the team is able to adapt to the client’s wants and needs.
Another awesome thing about Neoteric Design is their office. They have a top story loft in a very trendy part of Chicago relatively close to the loop. Some of the perks include:
An art sharing program which provides interesting artwork around the office to enjoy.
An expresso machine which has taken my coffee addiction to a new level. They also import nice coffee beans so there is no lack of joe.
Great view out the window at downtown Chicago.
Of course the greatest perk is to work alongside talented people every single day. Every member of the team has made me feel welcome and taught me something new. Especially working through the Strategy portion of my project, Nick has been very patient and understanding. To take a project from conception to deployment is no easy task, especially by yourself in 6 weeks, but it is quickly turning into one of the best experiences i’ve ever had.
